Cargo transport companies ask the national government to unblock the road to Buenaventura

The unions and companies of the country’s road cargo transport request the immediate intervention of the national government to solve the mobility problems that arise on the road to Buenaventura, due to the blockades of the communities in the region and the winter wave that is taking place. recorded in this area of the country.

The situation is really worrisome if one takes into account that 6,000 vehicles between cargo trucks and individuals pass through this area and an average of 50,000 tons per day are mobilized.

For these reasons, on the Buenaventura road to Cisneros, nearly 1,000 vehicles are dammed.

Similarly, at the entrance to Buenaventura, between the Loboguerrero, Alto Calima and Media Canoa toll booths, there are more than 2,300 vehicles dammed.

This situation, which has not been resolved for several days, is generating large economic losses for the road transport sector, which generates negative impacts on the supply chain of the family basket and foreign trade, since it is not possible to comply with the timely cargo delivery commitments and delays the evacuation of import containers.

We see with concern that as a result of this situation the poultry and pig sector of Valle del Cauca is seriously affected by the death of birds and pigs, due to the lack of food, which would lead to a crisis and the excessive increase in prices that occurred. in the most recent national strike. Our alarm and call to the national government also extends to achieve the protection of the other areas of the Pacific coast, taking into account Buenaventura is the pantry of this region of western Colombia.
